    Configure Your HP Z800 Workstation

    Processor

The Z800 supports two 64-bit Intel Xeon 'Westmere' 6-core processors totaling 12 independent processor cores for the ultimate in power and performance. It supports Hyper-Threading which allows two threads to run simultaneously on each core -- so the operating system recognizes 24 total cores on this model, 12 real and 12 virtual. It also supports "Turbo Boost" which automatically boosts the processor speed based on workload - so if an application is only using 2 of the 12 cores it will automatically increase the speed of the cores in use and turn off the unused cores.

ZWorkstations installs only final release, legitimate, in production processors. We never use engineering sample (ES) processors.

    Memory

The Z800 has 12 DIMM slots supporting up to 192GB DDR3 ECC Memory. Choose more memory to improve overall system performance.

    Hard Drive / SSD - Bay 1

The Z800 has 4x internal 3.5" SATA3 (6GB/s) bays. You can arrange any combination of hard drives or solid-state drives.

Z Workstations stocks only brand new HGST and Western Digital hard drives, and brand new Samsung solid-state drives.

    Hard Drive / SSD - Bay 2

Configure the second drive bay with an additional hard drive or solid-state drive.

    Hard Drive / SSD - Bay 3

Configure the third drive bay with an additional hard drive or solid-state drive.

    Hard Drive / SSD - Bay 4

Configure the fourth drive bay with an additional hard drive or solid-state drive.

    Optical Bay 1 (Upper)

The Z800 chassis has three 5.25" bays to be used for optical drives, hard drives, or solid-state drives. One DVD Burner drive that burns and plays both CDs and DVDs comes standard.

Since hard drives are 3.5" and solid-state drives are 2.5", the drive adapters are included in the listed price.

    Graphics Card (Primary)

The Z800 mainboard has 2x PCI Express Gen2 x16 slots available for the performance graphics cards and/or accelerators.

If more than one of the same graphics card is selected, we will include and install the SLI Bridge by default.

HP Z800 - Apple Mac Pro 5,1 Comparison
The Z800 supports two high performance graphics cards such as the Titan X 12GB. The Mac Pro supports only one.
The Z800 supports SLI allowing the graphics cards to perform together. The Mac OS does not support SLI.

    Graphics Card (Secondary)

Choose an optional second graphics card. Note that graphics cards work independently of each other. The benefit if a second graphics card is to support more displays or if you plan to perform multiple rendering or performance tasks at the same time. If you wish to have two cards working together to increase performance, choose a NVIDIA Quadro graphics card plus a NVIDIA Tesla graphics accelerator. The NVIDIA Tesla cards work in conjunction of the Quadro as computing processors.

    Graphics Accelerator

GPU-accelerated computing is the use of a graphics processing unit (GPU) together with a CPU to accelerate scientific, analytics, engineering, consumer, and enterprise applications. GPU-accelerated computing offers application performance by offloading compute-intensive portions of the application to the GPU, while the remainder of the code still runs on the CPU. From a user's perspective, applications simply run significantly faster.
