    The Z820 supports dual Intel Xeon E5-2600v1 and E5-2600v2 series processors for the ultimate in power and performance. The Hyper-Threading support allows two threads to run simultaneously on each core -- Windows recognizes 48 total cores on this unit, 24 real and 24 virtual. It also supports "Turbo Boost" which automatically boosts the processor speed based on workload - so if an application is only using one of the 48 cores it will automatically increase the speed of the core in use and turn off the unused cores.

    ZWorkstations installs only final release, legitimate, in production processors. We never use engineering sample (ES) processors.

    The first generation Z820 using the Xeon Sandy-Bridge processor supports up to 128GB of 1333MHz memory.

    The Z820 supports booting off PCIe which provides tremendously faster options than the SATA3 (6GB/s) maxing at ~550MB/s. We offer the latest Samsung Flash Storage technology. More than one PCIe drive can be installed upon request.

    The HP Z Turbo Drive Quad Pro Card from HP integrates up to four Samsung SM951/SM961 NVMe SSD modules into one PCIe x16 card. This card is configured with two or four matching 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB modules providing a max capacity of 4TB. Two drives achieve speeds of 3000MB/s via our default RAID 0 setup. Four drives achieve speeds of 5000MB/s via our default RAID 0 setup.

    The purpose of RAID 0 (stripe RAID) is performance. 2 or 4 drives are partitioned together to achieve maximal read and write speeds which is excellent for editing. However, since the data is split across all the drives, RAID 0 offers no fault tolerance - if any of the constituent drives fails, the RAID unit fails. Thus, it is vital to back up all data when using a stripe RAID 0 array.

    Since these drives offer optimal performance at a higher cost, we recommend using it as the primary drive or two edit from. In addition, have a high capacity standard hard drive as a backup / data storage.

    The Z820 has 4x internal 3.5" SATA3 (6GB/s) bays. You can arrange any combination of hard drives or solid-state drives.

    Z-Workstations stocks only brand new HGST and Western Digital hard drives, and brand new Samsung solid-state drives.

The benefit if a second graphics card is to support more displays or if you plan to perform multiple rendering or performance tasks at the same time. The NVIDIA Tesla cards work in conjunction of the Quadro as computing processors.
